What is ICC Authority?

All transportation companies require an operating license issued by the former Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC), which is now maintained by the Department of Transportation (DOT). As a truck driver, you also need this operating authorization. For commercial transportation and commercial truck drivers, it is an unavoidable license or authority. When you move goods across state lines, you need this license, along with truck insurance and cargo insurance. Please check the rules and regulations of your home state during pick up. Your home state may have some regulations regarding the loading and unloading of the items. For truckers, an ICC authority means you have a license to transport various items and goods within the state and highway.

Now, instead of the ICC, ICC authority applications are handled by two agencies under the USDOT. You don’t need experience to get this authority; you just need to request it. ICC operating authority decides which companies are allowed as truck driver/transporter. It also determines the service these companies will provide and the fees they can collect from the customers.

ICC Authority means Operational Authority. ICC refers to Interstate Commerce Commission. ICC authority now means federal operating authority that takes care of the rules for transportation companies for hire across the various state lines.

ICC authority is a term used to mean a legal authorization or a business license. This is granted by a federal or state transportation agency. This permit or license is required by the rental company or truck drivers.

By law, if you are a truck driver, you must have an ICC operating license. If you work without it, you are really taking a big risk.

It is better not to operate until you have the authority. When operating as a truck driver within a specific commercial zone, you can operate without such authorization, but if you intend to venture outside this zone, make sure you have the authority to do so.
