Family fun on the water

Today’s family is generally reduced to almost “no time.” Parents are working longer hours, children and teens’ attention is consumed by social media, television and even texting entire conversations. The distractions are all around us. Heck, I remember when I was younger we actually had to get on our bikes and ride to visit friends and then talk to them with our voices.

Times have changed, but not everything has been for the better. Families need more alternatives for spending time together than simply “befriending” each other on the Internet and “posting” about the day’s events. Without interacting with each other, it’s hard to really get to know someone.

Fortunately, there is a great way to solve this problem. Spend time together without electronic distractions, get to know each other and move bodies for exercise. That’s called paddle sports. Fairly commonly known as kayaking, canoeing and the growingly popular stand-up paddleboards or SUPs.

Around the world we are blessed with many rivers, lakes and other bodies of water out there for you to explore. Not to mention the natural beauty Mother Nature loves to share. The landscape type can only be found through watercraft.

Sure, boating is great too, but it has some major drawbacks. It cost money for gas, insurance, mooring and so on. It is also very difficult to get into those little nooks and crannies of nature. No extra money is required to use a kayak or canoe. Just a paddle and some human power.

This outdoor water sport goes like a rocket to the moon. Parents, children, teens of all ages fall in love with paddle sports all over the world.

Using a lightweight craft and oar, people can paddle and discover things that can only be seen on the water. It doesn’t take a large vehicle to tow, it can even be done with a small vehicle with the right trailer.

Kayak trailers can be purchased that are built specifically to be lightweight, yet can carry several paddle sport boats to accommodate many kayaks and canoes and still be towed behind a small car. Imagine the whole family, a few friends all getting together and spending all day on the water or in the park just getting to know each other and spending time without texting or emailing. This is all possible.
